There are two different ways to charge the vehicle:
Ambient conditions for handling the charging system
- Operating temperature -25 °C to +35 °C
- Relative humidity 5 % to 95 % non-condensing
- Max. 4000 m above mean sea level
Important safety warnings for handling the charging system
Surfaces can become very hot if exposed to direct sunlight.
Improper use may result in electric shocks.
Do not use extension cables or cable reels.
Do not use travel adapters.
Do not use multiple outlet power sockets.
Do not use charging cables if the connector leads or electronics have been damaged. |
WARNING!
Improperly installed power sockets can result in electric shock or fire when the high-voltage battery is charged via the vehicle charging connection.
- The power socket for the Audi e-tron charging system must be installed and commissioned by a qualified electrician. The electrician is responsible for full compliance with existing regulations and standards.
- Make sure that the power outlet to be used for charging is suitable for a current consumption of 16 amps.
- Make sure that the 230 V socket is earthed and protected from water.
- The Audi e-tron charging system must only be used in properly earthed electricity grids. It is not possible to use the system in unearthed networks (e.g. IT networks).
- The Audi e-tron charging system must be connected to a suitable power outlet which has been installed in accordance with local regulations and standards.
- If leaving the vehicle to charge unsupervised, make sure that no unauthorised persons (e.g. children playing) can access the Audi e-tron charging system and/or vehicle.
- Please observe the safety information in the fitting instructions for the Audi charging dock*.
WARNING!
Incorrect handling of connector contacts can result in electric shock or fire.
- Do not touch the contacts on the vehicle charging connection or the Audi e-tron charging system.
- Do not insert any objects into the vehicle charging connection or into the Audi e-tron charging system.
- Protect power outlets and plug connections against moisture, water and other liquids.
WARNING!
The use of a damaged or faulty charging cable or power socket, improper use of the Audi e-tron charging system or failure to observe the safety warnings can cause short-circuits, electric shocks, explosions and fires or burns.
- Do not use the Audi e-tron charging system if it is damaged and/or dirty. Check cables and connections for damage and dirt before use.
- The Audi e-tron charging system must only be connected to properly installed and undamaged power sockets and fault-free electrical installations.
- Do not use extension cables, cable reels, multiple outlet power sockets or (travel) adapters.
- The Audi e-tron charging system must be disconnected from the infrastructure during an electrical storm.
- Repairs or modifications must not be carried out on electrical components.
- Never immerse the Audi e-tron charging system or the connectors in water.
- Only clean the Audi e-tron charging system when the operating unit is fully disconnected from the electricity grid and from the vehicle. Use a dry cloth for cleaning.
WARNING!
The components of the Audi e-tron charging system can produce sparks and ignite inflammable or explosive vapours.
- To reduce the risk of explosions, especially in garages, please ensure that the operating unit is at least 50 cm above the ground during charging.
- Do not use the Audi e-tron charging system in potentially explosive atmospheres.
- The Audi e-tron charging system must only be used to charge a plug-in hybrid vehicle with DC fault protection.
Caution!
Please ensure that you always carry a suitable mains plug for the Audi e-tron charging system in the country in which you are travelling. For more information, contact a qualified workshop.
Note
- For uninterrupted charging, it is recommended to charge the vehicle only at power outlets which are connected via a separately fused power circuit.
- For charging, we recommend the use of NEMA power outlets with a fuse rating of at least 30 A or industrial power outlets in compliance with IEC 60309.
- The electrical installation can be loaded to maximum capacity when the high-voltage battery is charged via the domestic/industrial power outlet. We recommend that the electrical installations used for charging be checked regularly by an electrician.
- The Audi e-tron charging system is suitable for use only with vehicles manufactured by brands belonging to the Volkswagen Group. This device is not approved for use with vehicles manufactured by other companies.
- There may be some television or radio interference in the vehicle's on-board systems while the vehicle is being charged.
