Audi A5/S5   Controls   HomeLink  Universal transmitter
Applies to vehicles: with HomeLink
Programming a button: Stage 1 (at the operating unit)
Switch on the ignition (do not start the engine).
Press and hold down the two outer HomeLink buttons Fig. 1 until the LED -A- goes out completely (after about 20 seconds). This procedure will delete the standard factory settings and does not need to be repeated when programming the other buttons.
Briefly press the particular HomeLink button which you would like to program.
Wait until the LED -A- begins to flash rapidly. The HomeLink module now remains in training mode for 5 minutes.
Now step in front of your vehicle with the original hand-held transmitter for the garage door opener or any other device you wish to assign to the HomeLink control button.
Programming a button: Stage 2 (at the radiator grille)
Hold the original hand-held transmitter at or near the centre of your car's radiator grille Fig. 2.
Press the activator button on the hand-held transmitter.
As you do so, watch the turn signals on your vehicle. If the hazard lights flash three times, the button has been programmed successfully. If the hazard lights flash once only, the programming operation has failed or the five minute programming period has expired. Repeat the programming procedure on the operating unit starting with the 3rd step or try holding the transmitter nearer or further away from the radiator grille.
If the garage door or other devices still fail to be activated with the HomeLink control buttons after programming is completed, it is possible that these systems might be working with a rolling code instead of the normal fixed security code. If this is the case, a rolling code programming routine is required in addition to the steps described above Link.
Follow the instructions above to program the other two buttons. Start with step 3 if you wish to program the other two buttons after programming the first button.
Pressing a button
To open the garage door, press the programmed button. The LED -A- will light up or flash.
To close the garage door, press the button again.
Erasing the button programming
Switch on the ignition (do not start the engine).
To erase all programmed buttons simultaneously, press and hold down the two outer buttons until the LED -A- goes out completely (after about 20 seconds).
Programmed buttons cannot be erased individually. Reprogram the buttons if necessary.
Reprogramming the buttons
Switch on the ignition (do not start the engine).
To reprogram an individual button, press and hold the desired button until the LED -A- begins to flash (after about 10 seconds). Release the button.
Wait until the LED -A- begins to flash rapidly. The HomeLink module now remains in training mode for 5 minutes.
Continue with the 5th step.
Note
  • The required distance between the hand-held transmitter and the HomeLink module inside the radiator grille Fig. 2 depends on the system you are programming.
  • With some types of garage door opener, you may need to briefly release the button during programming and then press it again. When programming a new device, keep the button pressed for at least 15 seconds before trying again with the transmitter in a different position. Watch out for the hazard light signals during that time.
  • For security reasons we recommend that you delete the programming of the buttons prior to selling your vehicle.
