Applies to: vehicles with Audi adaptive cruise control
General notes
The system draws the driver s attention to hazardous situations. An early warning is given if:
- A vehicle in front brakes suddenly
- Your own vehicle approaches a much slower or stationary vehicle from behind
If this warning is given, you may need to take evasive action or brake hard to avoid a collision. The driver message Audi pre sense Fig. 142► and a warning tone draw your attention to the danger.
If you do not take appropriate action in time, pre sense front will assist by applying the brakes.
In the event of an impending collision, an acute warning will be given initially in the form of a brake jolt. In addition, the instrument cluster display Fig. 142► draws your attention to the danger. If you do not respond to the acute warning, pre sense front can, subject to general system limitations, apply the brakes with increasing brake force1), in order to slow the vehicle down and take the impact out of a potential collision. At low road speeds, pre sense front can initiate a full brake application1) just before an impending collision with a vehicle in front. If pre sense front detects that you are not braking hard enough in the event of an impending collision, it will increase the brake pressure.
In conjunction with pre sense basic/rear, the following functions may be initiated, depending on how fast the vehicle is travelling:
- Activation of reversible front seat belt tensioners.
- Automatic closing of windows and sun roof*.
- Inflation of side cushions* on backrest and seat cushion.
Audi drive select: The functions for the reversible seat tensioners, closure of windows and sunroof* and inflation of side cushions* on backrest and seat cushion are only active in certain driving modes.
Swerve assist
The swerve assist helps you to steer around an obstacle in critical situations where you take sudden evasive action. If you take action to avoid an obstacle following an acute warning, the swerve assist will help you by applying a small amount of steering torque to correct your steering angle while you are steering actively. The swerve assist is available at speeds of between approximately 30 and 150 km/h.
Turn-off assist
When you start to take either a left or right turn-off (depending on which country you are driving in), the turn-off assist can apply the brakes in order to prevent a collision with an oncoming vehicle at speeds up to 10 km/h. The effect of the brake application is to keep the vehicle in your traffic lane.
WARNING
- The protection provided by pre sense front is still subject to the prevailing physical limits. It is a driver assist function and cannot prevent a collision in every situation. The driver must always intervene personally. As the driver you are always responsible for braking in good time. Do not let the extra safety provided tempt you into taking any risks when driving – this can cause accidents.
- Due to inherent system limitations, false activation of the system is possible.
- Please note that the sensors and camera are not always able to detect all objects or lane markings - risk of accident!
- Pre sense front does not react to people, animals, crossing traffic or objects that cannot be clearly recognised ►.
- Reflecting objects, such as crash barriers, the entrance to a tunnel, heavy rain or ice can impair the function of the radar sensors and the ability of the system to detect a collision risk.
CAUTION
Impacts or damage to the bumper, wheel arches or underbody can cause misalignment of the sensors. This can impair the function of the pre sense front system. Have the systems checked by a qualified workshop.
Note
- The automatic brake application with increasing brake force can be cancelled by applying the brakes yourself or by pressing the accelerator firmly or by taking evasive action.
- Please note that pre sense front may apply the brakes unexpectedly. Always secure your luggage to prevent damage and possible injury.
